75th Anniversary of the liquidation of the Minsk ghetto

On October 22, 1943, the Minsk ghetto, one of the largest ghettos in Europe, has ceased to exist.
On October 22, 2018 we mark the 75th Anniversary of its liquidation.
Within the Memorial Days in Minsk we held the Commemoration ceremony at "Yama" Memorial, as well as the Memorial Evening in honor of ghetto survivors and the Righteous Among the Nations in the Belarusian State Philharmonic.

The lead of the Commemoration ceremony was Vladimir Chernitsky, chairman of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities.

Undoubtedly, the main participants of the Memorial Days were the survivors of the Minsk ghetto from Belarus and other countries.

On October 22, there were the representatives of the Belarusian State Bodies, the diplomatic corps, and religious denominations of Belarus.

At the beginning of the Commemoration ceremony, Vladimir Zhevnyak, the Deputy Head of the Belarus President Administration, delivered a message from the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko.

The speeches were continued by Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Sofa Landver, Minister of Aliyah and Integration of the State of Israel, Peter Dettmar, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Belarus. Raya Kalenova, Executive Vice President, spoke on behalf of the European Jewish Congress, uniting the Jewish communities of 42 European countries.

Especially shrill were the speeches of the survivors of the ghetto, Eugene Andreychik, the chairman of the Belarusian Public Association of Jews - former prisoners of the ghetto and Nazi concentration camps, and Frida Reisman, the former prisoner of the Minsk ghetto, the head of the Gilf organization.

The Commemoration ceremony ended with the Kaddish prayer, which was read by the Chief Rabbi of the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in the Republic of Belarus, Shneor Daych, and with laying the flowers and stones to the Memorial.

In addition, within the Memorial Days dedicated to the 75th Anniversary of the liqiudation of the Minsk ghetto, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus organized on October 22 International Round Table "Tragedy of the Minsk Ghetto: Remembrance and Lessons", which was attended by presidents of European Jewish communities, and representatives of the ghetto survivors.

The Memorial Evening in honor of ghetto survivors and Righteous Among the Nations also became a special event of this day.
The words of welcome were told by: Vladimir Chernitsky, Chairman of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities, Igor Yurkevich, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Neta Briskin-Peleg, Head of the Nativ Organization of the Office of the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Bilana Shahar, Country Director in GUS countries, Head of the Office of the Jewish Agency in Moscow, Igor Ujhazi, Coordinator for countering anti-Semitism of the World Jewish Congress.

Heartwarming was the Awarding ceremony of Diplomas and Medals of the Righteous Among the Nations to the two families:
Memorial Institute Yad Vashem awarded with the title of Righteous Among the Nations Anna and Nazar Kuzmin, as well as their children Oksana and Fyodor. The Diploma and the Medal of the Righteous Among the Nations were presented to the grandson of the rescuers Martinov Oleg Georgievich.
Memorial Institute Yad Vashem awarded with the title of Righteous Among the Nations Stefan Kuchinsky. The Diploma and the Medal of the Righteous Among the Nations were presented to his great-granddaughter Kuchinsky Irina Vladimirovna.

The Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities expresses the sincere gratitude to all partners in organizing of the Memorial Days in Minsk.

We thank everyone who was with us on this day, as well as those who remembered the tragedy of the Minsk ghetto, being in thousands of kilometers from Minsk.

100 thousand victims... 825 days of Tragedy and Heroism ... 75 years of Memory ...

Within these October days, we honor the memory of the victims of the Minsk ghetto, as well as all Jews who were killed in the ghettos of hundreds of cities and towns in Europe.

We remember all, we remember everyone!
